The target audience for thrillers, generally, are 25-40 year old's, predominantly male, however they can branch off into different types which appeal to different people. For example, crime/action thrillers tend to appeal to a younger male audience interested in violence, whereas mystery thrillers are aimed more at women, it can be noted that some thrillers have female leads which will probably also appeal more to women.

A lot of the appeal of thrillers comes in with uses and gratifications, entertainment is created with drama and tension, a lot of them are also set in appealing places which can give people escapism. The characters are usually in depth as we get insight into their thoughts or intentions which forms relatable characters the audience can identify with.
